New Category - Structural Geology
A new section is being added, focusing on structural geology—or more accurately, the marriage of structural and sedimentary geology. Both structural geology and sedimentology can deal with deformation processes, though these often differ in scale and mechanism. As a result, there is frequent overlap in classification. In sedimentary contexts, features like slumps and landslides can be classified as either deformational or gravitational structures, within the realm of sedimentology and structural geology respectively. I am not the most consistent about this, placing samples in one category or another on a rather subjective basis. Anyway, I’ve always had an admiration for structural geology - a stress field sounds a lot like a gravitational field, so I always felt that this is the part of geology where science is at the highest level. Not on this website of course :-)
