Groove Casts

Central Southern Karavanks.

Subtle, raised ridges on the underside of the Pennsylvanian to Early Permian lithic sst most likely represent casts of grooves or furrows originally incised into the underlying substrate by a high-energy, unidirectional flow in a shallow marine setting.

Note the nodular structures, some displaying bifurcation, likely caused by bioturbation.
