Bioturbation to Tempestite Transition
Site
Central Southern Karavanks.
Notes
Transition from Bioturbated Mudrock to Coarse Tempestite/Lag Deposit and Mudrock/Fine Sandstone with Swalley Cross-Stratification. Pennsylvanian to Early Permian.
Further observations
Selective staining of the rock is limited to the outermost shell of the non-bioturbated section. The tempestite layer, being coarser, more porous, and potentially richer in iron minerals, facilitated weathering-induced staining during sub-aerial exposure.
