Tempestite to Bioturbated Transition
Site
Central Southern Karavanks.
Notes
Transition from Coarse Tempestite/Lag Deposit and Mudrock/Fine Sandstone with Hummocky Cross-Stratification to Bioturbated Mudrock. Pennsylvanian to Early Permian.
Thoughts
Observe the selective staining of the rock, limited to the outermost shell of the non-bioturbated section. The tempestite layer, being coarser, more porous, and potentially richer in iron minerals, facilitated weathering-induced staining during sub-aerial exposure.
