Longitudinal Scours Transitional to Flutes
Site
Central Southern Karavanks.
Notes
Longitudinal sole marks indicating scour by unidirectional currents, display transitional nature between classical longitudinal scours (anastomosing terminations) and flute marks (ends reminiscent of noses typical of flute casts). ?P1.
Thoughts
The transitional nature of the scours implies fluctuating flow intensity with episodic, high-velocity flows, such as those generated by storms, which had enough energy to induce erosion by vortices, yet not stable enough to develop fully formed flutes.
