Erosional Scour Calcirudite

Central Southern Karavanks.

Intrastratal fossiliferous calcirudite (bioclastic rudstone) horizon, representing a high-energy event resulting in fusulinid and gastropod accumulation, with erosional basal and upper surfaces passing into calcarenite. Pennsylvanian/Early Permian.

Note the incipient formation of diagenetic (teeth perpendicular to bedding) stylolite.
