Notes
Densely packed, fossilized thalli of calcareous algae embedded in marly limestone (bafflestone). Their dense accumulation, partial orientation, and abundant skeletal debris in the matrix indicate growth in place with some reworking. C3 - P1.
Envir. Setting
The apparent abundance of skeletal debris among the thalli points toward a somewhat reworked setting, likely a low-energy lagoonal or shallow subtidal shelf environment periodically disturbed by storms.
Further observations
Observe the dark fossils strongly contrasting relatively light-colored fine-grained matrix, suggesting differential weathering due to different composition, e.g. micrite versus calcite cement.
