Elongate-fusiform fossil (? demosponge) displaying strong bilateral symmetry and distinct, radiating canal-like structures emanating from a central point or axis, consistent with the incurrent and excurrent canal systems typical of sponges. ?P1.
Further observations
The porous texture covering the surface of the host rock—best described as a sponge framestone or sponge bafflestone - may have been left behind by hypercalcified lithistid or sphinctozoan-type sponges, forming part of a reefal or encrusting community.
